Our Story
In October 2004, Sarah Lurie founded Iron Core, the first kettlebell training studio that exclusively offers RKC certified kettlebell instruction. Kettlebell expert Sarah Lurie is a former body-building competitor, and did traditional weight training for more than 10 years. After experiencing a debilitating injury during a workout, Lurie discovered that kettlebell training helped her overcome her injury and get back into a comprehensive fitness routine.
The kettlebell training program originated in Russia more than 100 years ago. Kettlebells are solid cast iron and range in weight from 9 to 88 pounds. They look like a cannonball with a suitcase handle. Unlike traditional weight training, kettlebell routines reduce the risk of injury because you are using and developing functional strength in your workout.
"With kettlebell training, I was exercising my entire body, getting a great cardio and strength workout and spending half the time doing it. No longer was I isolating body parts, laying or sitting on a machine - now I was using and moving my body as an integrated unit." says Lurie. "My hips were always so tight from squatting in the gym, but they soon became loose and powerful from the foundation kettlebell exercise, the swing. My butt and thighs were transformed, too. Countless reps of lunges, squats and dead lifts could not even come close to the results I got from a few weeks of swings, cleans, Turkish get-ups, snatches and presses."
With her new found enthusiasm and discovery, Lurie dedicated herself to becoming a certified kettlebell instructor and opened up Iron Core in La Jolla, California. Within three short years, Lurie expanded her operations, and opened Iron Core San Diego with her team of kettlebell experts.
"Our instructors are dedicated to helping you reach your health and fitness goals in a challenging and non-intimidating environment. Iron Core has earned the reputation of being the kettlebell gym where you come to learn and get results", states Lurie.
The kettlebell workout is designed for people who are willing to push themselves at a high intensity. A kettlebell workout usually takes around 45 minutes, but can take as little as 15 to 20 minutes. This unique program appeals to men and women of all ages, recreational athletes and professional athletes alike, because it combines an amazing strength training, muscle conditioning and cardio workout simultaneously.
